A Double-Bill of plays from Staffordshire’s Opus Theatre Company
UNACCOMMODATED by Andy Powrie and Bill Cashmore
SAY SOMETHING HAPPENED by Alan Bennett
In UNACCOMMODATED by Andy Powrie and Bill Cashmore, Norman Hollinshead is dividing his brewery empire between his three daughters - with disastrous results! The two eldest daughters begin plotting against each other for the remaining shares which will give one of them complete control and cut out the other, whilst the youngest daughter has been cut off by her father for not demonstrating how much she loves him! However, she is the means through whom a successful conclusion is reached. A re-telling of "King Lear" brought up to date.
The second play SAY SOMETHING HAPPENED by Alan Bennett tells the story of what can happen when an elderly couple, convinced nothing can happen to them, are visited by a representative of the council because they consider them to be at risk.
But as things turn out the young woman realises that she's as much at risk as the people the council are trying to protect - and just what aid can the local authority offer to demonstrate their concern? A light- hearted look at getting old!
This will be Opus Theatre’s third visit to the Old Joint Stock Theatre having previously been with BRIDE OR GROOM? and HOUSE OF PAIN.
OPUS Theatre Company are a non-profit, small scale touring company based in Staffordshire, presenting high quality productions. Founded in 1987, the first production was Charles Dyer's 'Rattle Of A Simple Man' followed by Oscar Wilde's 'The Importance Of Being Ernest', Pinter's 'The Caretaker' and 'Educating Rita' by Willy Russell.
The Company is always on the lookout for new works and have recently launched no less than three world premiers. The first was 'Confessions Of Honour' by OPUS founder Gerry Hinks which included as part of the tour the Jermyn Street Theatre in London's West End. This was followed by two monologues; 'My Diet From Hell' and 'Such A Laugh' and a full length comedy 'House Of Pain' all penned by Lichfield writer Phil Preece. These productions were first premiered at The Garrick Theatre in Lichfield, Staffordshire.
