An Actor's Life for Me... Three women, one job and a strange audition waiting room
The Waiting Room by David Hale performed by Other People's Shoes Theatre Company.
Other People's Shoes Theatre Company was formed to produce thought provoking new work that would create roles for different types of women and develop new writing. It hopes to involve people from the Midlands for performing and Production.
The Company used the Birmingham Artsfest to preview the play to see how audience's received the play and they were delighted when Ian Craddock at the Old Joint Stock Theatre was happy to premiere it.
It came about as an idea, when Delyth Law was doing a showcase at the Actor's Centre London and wanted David Hale a friend to write a play for women, with monologues with maybe a hint of 'Waiting for Godot- All conversations took place with a glass of wine on David's balcony in Hither Green, London. It was his first play for women and he says that he was inspired by Big Brother and his neurotic actress friend from Birmingham.
'an actor's life for me....'Three women, one job!
David Hale's darkly comic play adds a twist to the life of the jobbing actor as they await their fate in an audition room in Hackney. Unlike the 'dubious' play that the actors are auditioning for - It's about ideas- 'it's not character driven at all' Kelly - The Waiting Room - is character driven and shows the inner and outer personalities of all the women with brutal and at times comic honesty.
David Hale Author- Since receiving an MA with distinction in Playwriting Studies at Birmingham University David has had many of his plays performed and read at writer's workshops at the Royal Court Theatre, including 'The One' and 'Dogs'. His most recent success was his translation of Werner Schwab's ‘The Chair Women' which played at the Riverside and he received an excellent review in Time Out.
